A vineyard in paradise

Caldera is a place of outstanding beauty and character overlooking the idyllic village of Akaroa, and the spectacular harbour at the heart of Banks Peninsula in the South Island of New Zealand. It’s named after the ancient caldera landform created millions of years ago by the collapse of a colossal volcano that shaped the peninsula, ultimately providing the perfect conditions for producing some of the most exceptional wines in New Zealand.

Restoring the land

We aren’t the first to cherish this place and its fruit-bearing qualities. The Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling grapes for Caldera’s premium range of wines are the rewards of vines planted on the estate by the original owner Graham Vanstone – a visionary who saw the true potential of the land. As today’s custodians of the land we’re bringing the vineyard new life, restoring its natural habitat, realising potential and nurturing the future.

Our wines are crafted from grapes grown beneath the Akaroa sky, and also from the fruit of Central Otago, Waipara and Marlborough, New Zealand’s world-renowned winegrowing regions. Under the expert care of celebrated winemakers including Dean Shaw and Theo Coles, we have perfected a range of true substance. Tony Anderson is a New Zealand businessman, property developer, entrepreneur, winegrower and the owner of Caldera Vineyard Estate. Inspired by the profound sense of place he felt when he first visited, Tony is drawing upon his decades of industry experience and extensive worldwide travel to shape a compelling future for Caldera.
